Mapping of the Keirsey-Myers Character Types to the Seven Rays

1. Introduction.

 

• Striking resemblance of the Keirsey's four temperaments (Keirsey, 1998) to some of the ray types (Bailey, 1940). These are the Artisans (Ray IV), the Rationals (Ray V), the Idealists (Ray VI) and the Guardians (Ray VII).

Every human being, in the earlier stages of his development (in ancient Lemuria and Atlantis, or possessing [559] today the Lemurian or Atlantean state of consciousness - and there are many such), comes into incarnation upon one of the four Rays of Attribute, because these rays are peculiarly and uniquely related to the fourth kingdom in nature, and therefore to the fourth Creative Hierarchy. During the long, long cycle of the present fifth race, the so-called Aryan race, there came a period (lying now in the far distant and forgotten past) when individuals who had attained a certain state of consciousness transferred on to one of the three Rays of Aspect, according to the predominance of the energy or the line of force which was conditioned by these rays. One of the Rays of Aspect and two of the Rays of Attribute (rays 3, 5, 7) are conditioned by the first Ray of Power or Will, whilst rays 4 and 6 are conditioned by the second Ray of Love-Wisdom. This I much earlier pointed out. A cycle of lives upon the third Ray of Creative Intelligence (as I prefer to call it) always precedes this transference... During these earlier periods all human beings were conditioned by the four Rays of Attribute; both as souls and as incarnated persons they were upon one of these four rays. Towards the middle of the Atlantean cycle (untold millions of years ago) the influence of the third Ray of Active Intelligence became exceedingly potent. Certain of the advanced humanity of the period gradually found their way on to, or rather into, the stream of divine energy which we call the third ray. The possibility, therefore, of their becoming integrated personalities was for the first time recognized, and humanly recognized. Such an integration must ever precede conscious human initiation. 2. Methods I
 

• In the absence of direct psychometric assessments, psychologists rely on self-reported questionnaires to indirectly assess character types.
   
• Questionnaire-based assessments may measure either the absolute or the relative strengths/weaknesses of psychological traits. The Keisey Character Sorter (KCS) measures relative preferences among temperaments
  
   

3. Methods II (reinterpretation of KCS)

• KCS measures character preferences along three specific dimensions:

Sensing / Intuition (S/N) ===> How do we gather information?

Thinking / Feeling (T/F) ===> How do we process information?

Judging / Perceiving (J/P) ===> How do we act on information?

AND

• One general disposition: Extroversion / Introversion (E/I).
  
   
• These three dimensions may be understood in terms of the relative preference among the three major (1st, 2nd and 3rd) ray types:

S=3, N=2

T=1, F=2

J=1, P=3

That is, the three major ray types are exhaustively compared, two at a time, resulting in the three KCS dimensions.
 

4. Results

5. Discussion and Recommendations:

• Rays IV-VII (minor rays) represent the four pillars around which the lower quaternary becomes an integrated personality. Thus the correlation with the four classical character types, the four elements (astrology) and the four chemical bases (A/T, C/G) of the DNA sequence.
   
• Soul infusion provides the direct influence of the three major rays producing the full expression of the seven rays in a soul-infused personality.
   
• Mapping of ray types to mainstream pychological research findings may provide an opportunity to empirically validate "rayology" with existing databases, including astrology.
   
• Psychological types are related to "polarization" of individual according to predominant psychological functions but ignore "age of the soul" (re-incarnation experience)
   
• Need to design instruments that directly measure absolute strengths of character traits
